Evergreen Award of Marquette County Honors Community Advocate Amy Clickner
Wednesday, October 28, 2009
MARQUETTE COUNTY – Recognized for her work on behalf of others, especially Marquette County and numerous areas in the community, Amy Clickner was honored as recipient of the 2009 Evergreen Award of Marquette County.
The award was announced at the 2009 Evergreen Award Luncheon held at the Northern Michigan University Great Lakes Room on Wednesday, October 28.
Clickner was recognized for accomplishments in her career, for being an outstanding role model and mentor and making a strong contribution to the betterment of Marquette County through the use of her time, energy and creativity. She is the chief executive officer of the Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP), an organization that serves as the chamber of commerce and economic development corporation and helps to make Marquette County a great place to live, work, play and raise a family.
“My reason for nominating Amy Clickner is to thank her and honor her for continually supporting Marquette County. She has demonstrated effective leadership and commitment in numerous areas of the community,” said Lindsay Hemmila, marketing & membership specialist at LSCP. Hemmila nominated Clickner for the Evergreen Award.
“Whether she realizes it or not, she serves as a mentor not only to me, but to many women in the community who look at her and see her steady drive, unremitting dedication and hard work,” Hemmila added. “She continues to pave the way for future female leaders of Marquette County by giving them the assurance that anything is possible. What I see in her is what I hope to be one day. She is a go-getter and gets the job done. The best part of it all is that she does it with confidence and style. She does not do it to seek notoriety.”
The Evergreen Award is the regional version of what used to be recognized as the ATHENA Award, and is organized by the Zonta Club of Marquette Area. The award is open to men and women of Marquette County who are inspirational in their roles as mentors of women and girls. The selection committee evaluated the nominees based on how they demonstrated excellence, creativity and initiative in their professions or as volunteers.
Clickner has been the chief executive officer of the LSCP since her promotion in 2005. The LSCP is working hard to strengthen Marquette County’s economy and to create jobs for our county. “Without the leadership, experience, tenacity and vigor of Amy Clickner, our organization as we know it would not be here today. Amy has extensively helped the LSCP reach its goal of community and economic development, by demonstrating leadership within the community. She never fails to amaze me with her enthusiasm and commitment to Marquette County. Seeing her in action impresses me. Her knowledge base is remarkable. She is a woman of extraordinary courage and strength,” Hemmila said.
Aside from her challenging job, Clickner has also been involved as a member of the Marquette County Ambassadors, Michigan Economic Developers Association, International Economic Developers Corporation, Negaunee Public Schools Citizen Advisory Committee, Lakeview Elementary SHINE volunteer, Ishpeming Rotary Club, Negaunee Nets Basketball Club Coordinator, Negaunee Irontown Classic Tournament Director, Seafood Festival Past Chairperson, U.P. Children’s Museum Past Board of Directors, Hematite & Professional Women Past President, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Marquette County Past President, Marquette Area Chamber of Commerce Past President, Marquette Rotary West Past President and the St. Paul’s Church Parish Faith Formation Committee Past Chairperson. Clickner has recently successfully completed the Fellow in the Ford Foundation Regional Sustainable Development program and was the only candidate chosen from Michigan from a pool of distinguished and talented aspirants to represent diverse communities and personal backgrounds.
“Amy’s excellence of leadership in her profession, her contributions to the community and the leadership opportunities she provides for other women in the workplace, are a few of the many qualifications she possesses,” Hemmila wrote.
